Solving Overlapping Time Periods

Topic Overview

To solve the issue of Overlapping Time Periods, click the + next to the period displaying the Overlapping symbol. The branches under the item will open. Depending on how many of the Time Periods have overlapping time periods you will see the same symbol beside the sub branches that have a problem. Click the + beside each sub branch that shows the overlapping symbol to discover which specific Time Periods are involved. In this manner you can track down the problem in relatively short order and correct only the Time Periods that are causing the overlap. An example is shown in Figure 1:

Figure 1: Overlapping Time Period example

In this example, there is a problem with the Time Period for Monday in January and Tuesday in February. This overlap was created by setting up an Hourly Time Period for all Days and Months and then creating an Hourly time period for Monday in January and an Hourly Time Period for Tuesday in February. The cause of the overlap is shown in Figures 2 through 4:

Figure 3: The first overlapping Time Period on Mondays in January

Figure 4: The second overlapping Time Perios on Tuesdays in February

The first overlap is caused by the Mon Hourly Time Period duplicating the settings in the Hourly Time Period for Mondays in January. The second overlap is caused by the Tue Hourly Time Period duplicating the settings in the Hourly Time Period for Tuesdays in February. Provided the Mon Hourly and Tue Hourly Time Periods have never been used, they can be removed to eliminate the overlaps. You should always make sure there are no overlaps or other problems before assigning any Rental Rates to the time periods, however, in the event that either of them have been used, you can set them to be inactive which will allow the Hourly Time Period to take their place.
