Importing Discount Code

Data import using the discount code allows you to alter existing cost or prices by a percentage, based on a discount code.

An example of doing this would be a supplier list that provides you with a discount code that is applied to a suggested retail price, and from that you need to determine your cost.

Here is an example of inventory items in a sheet format that provide a suggested retail and a discount code, but no cost.

Importing this file into the Regular or Virtual Warehouse database can include a process to calculate the Wholesale cost of the item based on the discount code.

First modify the sheet to include a column for cost that is simply a copy of the Suggested Retail column. Use the copy and paste functions from Excel to create the extra column, and change the heading to Cost.

Save this file as a Comma Separated Value file, or .CSV and close Excel.

In System Five, in the Data Load section, choose to import the file.

Select the .CSV file you saved previously…..

and bring the file into the Data Load section. Here you see the spreadsheet you were working with in Excel. You assign each column with a heading by using the pull down menu. Two identical columns have List and Cost price as headings.

Now click Next and choose whether the file is being imported into Virtual Warehouse or Regular, indicate the supplier name, and choose any of the applicable updating features.

Click Next to move to the discount code section. Here is where the actual discounts get assigned to the codes. Select the "Cost Price" and choose the Discount code option.

Enter into the table the different discount codes and what they equate to.

In this example, the Discount code of D5 is equal to 10 percent off of the Suggested List price, and H7 is equal to a discount of 15% off of Suggested List.

Continue entering all of the different discount codes that are on the spreadsheet and then click next. Select the [Load] button to import the data.

An example of a part from the spreadsheet is shown by editing the part number. You can see that the Suggested retail price of $10.00 has calculated a cost of $9.00 based on the discount code D5 which was 10% discount. (Refer back to the spreadsheet at the beginning of this document.)
